Accessible Sport Councils

 

Cochrane District ASC

Current Goals:

  • Raise the profile of accessible sports in the district
  • Update and integrate existing databases of programs available for persons with a disability
  • Promote ParaSport in our district by encouraging partnerships and networking amongst existing accessible sporting organizations
  • On a long-term basis, facilitate training sessions for coaches and volunteers working in and interested in working in ParaSport in the surrounding area
  • Partner with the school board and incorporate ParaSport into the physical education curriculum for students
  • Promoting new sport and recreation opportunities
  • Host an Ontario ParaSport Game

    Georgian Triangle ASC

    Purpose:
    The purpose of this ASC is to create awareness of sport for persons with disabilities and unite disability organizations in order to share resources and knowledge to create a strong voice to advocate program and service development and accessibility throughout the region. The council will strive to involve regional groups at the municipal level in creating sport opportunities for persons with a disability.

    Hamilton ASC

    Mission:
    The Hamilton Accessible Sport Council (HASC) is dedicated to the development and promotion of accessible sport for all in the Hamilton community.

    Vision:
    To make Hamilton a place where people with a physical and cognitive accessibility issue, will be able to fully participate in a physically active lifestyle of their choice.

    London ASC

    Mission:
    To promote and facilitate accessible sport opportunities in London and Area.

    Goals:
    The goals of the London ASC include:

  • Promoting existing accessible sport and physical activity opportunities
  • Increasing communication among various accessible sport and physical activity groups
  • Advocating for the development of accessible sport and physical activity programs and facilities

    Niagara Region ASC

    Mission:
    To promote and enhance the opportunities for accessible sport.

    Sault Ste. Marie ASC

    The Sault Accessible Sport Council (SASC) was formed in the fall of 2009. The council’s goal is to sustain existing accessible sports and continue to develop new sports for their community. The council’s slogan is “Let’s Play Together”.

    Sudbury ASC

    Purpose:
    The purpose of the Sudbury Accessible Sport Council is to unite sport and disability organizations across Sudbury. Right now, the council’s focus is on educating the Sudbury public about adapted sports.

    Thunder Bay ASC

    Windsor ASC

    Goals:

  • Promote and help recruit existing parasport clubs in the area
  • Be the “central hub” for information in regards to accessible sports in the area
  • Seek out persons with disabilities and inform them of the council and current, as well as potential future sports
  • Communication with region’s rehabilitation centres and inform them of available programs
  • Promote and celebrate past Paralympic athletes in the region
  • Advocate and support accessible issues and municipal accessible committees
