SUMMARY:Ottawa Sport Council Webinar. Topic: Sport For Development
DESCRIPTION:April 18\, 2018- Topic: Sport for Development- Using Sport to Address Community Issues; Speaker: Bob Elliott \nFrom Ottawa Sport Council promotional literature; \nSee poster; \n Wednesday\, April 18\, 2018 12:00:00 PM EDT \n“For many years sport has unintentionally helped to address social issues in Canada. Over the past 10 years or so forward thinking sport organizers have started develop and carry out programs that intentionally use sport for a number of social objectives. This webinar will discuss the rationale for and provide examples of how programs across Canada address issues such as: \n•	Youth crime\n•	Youth mental health and addictions\n•	Integration of new Canadians\n•	Health promotion\n•	Community economic development\n•	PTSD \nThere are numerous opportunities open to leagues\, teams\, not-for-profit groups\, recreation and community centres\, NSOs\, P/TSOs and others to design programs that will benefit the community while helping to strengthen their own base. \nThis session will also provide suggestions for resources that you can access in order to assist with your work in this area. “
