February 2024 Update to Community Sport Network in Ontario

CSCO is pleased to offer the following announcements, events, grants and resources courtesy of our committed partners in community sport; Sport For Life, Canadian Olympic Committee, Ontario Winter Games-Thunder Bay, Coaching Association of Ontario, Sport Oakville, Sport Aurora, ParticipACTION, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, MLSE, ParaSport Ontario, Ottawa Sport Council and the Space Coalition.  

Announcements:

  • CSCO Sport For Life Dialogue session occurred on Jan 18 with 11 groups in attendance. Thankyou to Sport For Life for the Physical Literacy for Communities (PL) presentation provided by Drew Mitchell with the session recording and ppt to be available soon for distribution. The event featured a presentation, discussion on benefits for Councils and how PL for Communities might be an answer to many of our communities’ challenges.
  • CSCO Research project update: The research team is in the final stages in the development of a sport survey to be delivered to the community sport network in Ontario. It will be released soon to identify capacity building best practices and to assess our networks operational success and to make recommendations on the future sustainability of our community sport network.
  • Team Canada attended the 2024 Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon, South Korea from Jan 19-Feb 1. See Team Canada’s team list of 15-18 yr. olds in 7 sports, details here: https://bit.ly/3SkDYZ3. Let’s recognize our community athlete’s who have qualified and competed in these games?

 Grants:

  • Participaction Community Challenge grants are open now till Feb 13. Apply today for community grants of up to $1,500. This national physically activity challenge encourages everyone to get active in Canada in June in search for Canada’s most active community awarding it $100,000 to support physical activity and sport initiatives, see info here: https://www.participaction.com/programs/community-challenge/
  • Canadian Tire Jumpstart-Community Action grants-two funding streams are available: Programming support and Operational support. Timelines for programs focusing on kids (4-18 yrs.) or youth with disabilities (4-25 yrs.) starting May 1-Aug 31, 2024 with grant application deadline is Feb 16, 2024.
